DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A motorcyclist was killed during a Monday morning crash in Dorchester County.

Lance Cpl. Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) said the crash happened around 7:00 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. Highway 17-Alternate and SC 61.

Troopers said a Yamaha motorcycle was headed south on Highway 17-A when it collided with a northbound dump truck. The truck driver told News 2 on Monday that they were not at fault in the crash.

The dump truck driver was not injured; however, Trooper Pye said the motorcyclist died as a result of the crash.

The Dorchester County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as 25-year-old Thomas Price of Cottageville. The coroner pronounced Price dead at the scene at 7:58 a.m.

Price will undergo an autopsy at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) on Wednesday morning.

Highway Patrol and the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office are investigating.
