Check Out Finley's in Round Rock for Good Bar Food

Austin, TX--Looking for a different place to eat, my family stumbled across Finley's in the heart of downtown historic Round Rock, just outside of Austin. We were out taking a walk and might have missed this location, by its unassuming appearance. There's not much eyecatching and the restaurant almost blends into the surroundings.

What Filey's doesn't have on the outside for eye appeal it makes up for in flavor. This location, 410 W Main St, Round Rock, TX 78664 is one we'd revisit. You can see the full menu here. Take notice that the kitchen shuts down one hour before closing on Friday and Saturday. So, if you're hungry or get the munchies, order them early.

There's an beer garden for those who want to leisurely enjoy drinks outside and enjoy the warm Austin temperatures.

On this day, we opted for the patio and some shade to enjoy conversation and relax.

Of course, the kiddo ordered chicken nuggets.

The french fry portion was generous and the chicken seems to be freshly prepared too. No processed meat chunks that come out of a bag.

The Texas Melt

This sandwich, served on a hoagie bun is a bit overwhelming. A generous portion of chopped brisket and jalapeno-cheddar sausage with sauteed onion and jalapeno and melted American cheese. A wee bit spicy, even the next day, according to its recipient. I enjoy spicy food. I like a lot of Tabasco on my meals and it's my condiment of choice, but the jalapenos must have been from a potent batch. This was even a little spicy to me.

The Pulled Pork Sandwich

A nice taste of mild sweetness without an overwhelming vinegar flavor. Pulled, slow-cooked pork shoulder, house blackberry barbecue sauce and house pickled vegetables. The barbecue sauce wasn't of an overwhelming sweetness. It was just right. The vegetables were a delightful surprise: onions, pickles, and carrots. While I wouldn't personally have chosen to add carrots on a barbecue sandwich, I didn't mind them at all. The sandwich is definitely one I'd try again. They don't skimp on the french fry portions.

The staff was small and friendly. The menu says they are under new management. Possibly the restaurant is making a comeback after a covid times. The website says:

"Finley’s is now under new ownership/management and exciting changes and improvements are taking place. As we strive to earn your trust and repeat business by making these changes, we ask for your patience and understanding during this transitional phase. We can’t wait to share what we have in store. The best is yet to come!"

The staff is bubbly and friendly, while being warm in conversation. If you're ready to venture out for a aemailnd don't want to be stuck inside, Finley's is an unpretentious gem of a find. Small and local enough for personal service and big enough to spread out for safety. The website says safety is "their number one concern during these unprecedented times." Just outside of Austin, Finley's has American food at a fair price.
