Eugene's new food truck, The Spark, offers plant-based meals
Food at The Spark, a new food truck parked on Willamette Street, is nutritious, filling, and packed full of flavor. It's hearty enough you might question it's menu is truly meatless. The Spark mobile café is serving up satisfying plant-based dishes that go beyond salads. Julee Reinhart and Michael Sorensen, the minds behind the menu, are well-versed in the Eugene restaurant scene. Sorensen manages the deli at Capella Market , and Reinhart crafts coffee drinks at Vero Espresso . Together, the couple opened The Spark: a wholesome, earthy, vegetarian food truck that sources local produce and bread for its dishes. The Spark opened in July, but the pair's idea for a food truck was in the works for years. Reinhart knew she wanted to start her own business once she turned 40 and her oldest was 18. Since starting to date Sorensen, she wanted to involve him in the truck, and the idea came into focus. "We've both been involved in the food industry for a long time and were excited to start our own thing and become part of the community," she said. The couple has learned a lot during their first months at the truck. With a laugh,

Swinging By for a Slice?
Seize the Slice (2445 Hilyard Street) is tucked away in Eugene’s Amazon neighborhood — a dedicated pizza joint from the same folks who brought us Seize the Café. Owner and chef Chad Fuhreck had been slinging the occasional pizza since first adding a wood-fired oven to the space adjacent to The Café in 2022, but The Slice has since become its own dedicated project.

Confident snowshoers can continue on a tougher 3-mile loop to an icy grotto with a bonus cascade, Diamond Creek Falls.

The dreary February weather persists, but so do we. There are plenty of ways to fill evenings and spare moments this week in Eugene and Springfield. In a more modern sense, DJ Pauly D will be performing at The McDonald Theatre , bringing the Jersey Shore to Lane County. Two local art groups round out our events list this week, with a new art show being displayed at MECCA and an Emerald Literary Guild hosted event at the Downtown Library.
