WYN’s 12th Annual Festival of Trees Is Just Around the Corner

Local organizations, designers, and friend groups are gathering to deck the halls for this year’s annual Festival of Trees fundraiser, beginning the week of November 16th. Festival of Trees has become a tradition in kicking off the holiday season in the High Country. With more than 100 decorated trees and wreaths on display across Watauga, Ashe, and Avery counties and available for purchase via online auction, the event raises money to support Western Youth Network (WYN)’s vital programming for children and youth across the region.

Weaverville to hold Veterans Day ceremony

Weaverville and its Patriotic Committee will present a Veterans Day program at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Community Center. The program will include a keynote address from Waynesville native Command Sergeant Major Benjamin Garner. Garner serves as North Carolina’s Senior Enlisted Leader where he represents The Adjutant General of North Carolina and advises on matters pertaining to policies and actions that affect enlisted soldiers. Garner’s prior active-duty service overseas includes service in Germany, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Afghanistan, Iraq, and El Salvador.

The former EpiCentre site, now known as Queen City Quarter was purchased by new owners this week . Charlotte commercial real estate firm Lincoln Property Co., Vision Ventures and Hornets Sports & Entertainment announced the joint venture on Tuesday. The site was sold for $27.5 million, the Observer reported this week . The EpiCentre was the “place to be” for many years, playing host to the 2019 NBA All-Star Game, the 2020 Democratic National Convention and multiple celebrations for the Panthers and Hornets.
