Colo. man sentenced for conspiracy to distribute meth
United States Attorney Steven Russell announced that Jose O. Maes, 38, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, was sentenced today in Lincoln by Senior United States District Judge John M. Gerrard to 31 years in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine mixture with a prior violent felony conviction. Maes was convicted of the offense in November of 2022 after a three-day trial. Following the prison term, Maes will serve 15 years on supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

Detour announced for M66 project in Audubon County
(Kimballton) Starting the week of April 3rd Audubon County Road M66/Bluebird Avenue will be closed for four miles between 220th Street and Highway 44 North of Kimballton. The road will be closed to through traffic for intersection improvements and resurfacing. There will be a temporary traffic light at the intersection with State Highway 44 during the intersection improvement phase. Residents located along this section of road will have access to their properties during the project. Detour traffic will be routed East to US Highway 71 via Highway 44 and F32. The project is expected to be completed by Friday, May 26th.
Spring Turkey Season kicks off April 7th
(Area) Spring turkey season is around the corner. Youth hunters will take to the field in less than two weeks. “And that’s a great season. Hopefully we get decent weather for the youth hunters. It’s always kind of mixed bag so early in April. It can be cold, it can even snow during that youth season. The good thing about those you tags, just like the deer, that youth turkey tag is good for any of the other four season yet to come.
