Dryden man dies after truck strikes tree, catches fire, sheriff says
A 24-year-old Tompkins County driver was killed Nov. 5 as the result of a one-vehicle crash in the town of Dryden, the sheriff's office said. Tompkins County sheriff's deputies and multiple emergency agencies responded at approximately 5:50 p.m. to the 100 block of Hurd Road for a report of a pickup truck striking a tree and trapping the driver, according to Tompkins County Sheriff Derek R. Osborne. While emergency personnel were responding, Tompkins County 911 Dispatch advised that the vehicle had become fully engulfed in flames, the sheriff said. The Dryden Fire Department and other responding fire agencies worked to extinguish the fire. Once the fire was brought under control, first responders located the vehicle's sole occupant, Chase Nash of Dryden, who had sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and resulting fire, the sheriff's office said. The sheriff's office said an initial examination of the scene suggests the vehicle drifted off the roadway before it struck a tree. Two men arrested after crash in Sidney
SIDNEY, NY — Two men were arrested following a two-vehicle crash on County Highway 23 near County Highway 27. Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced the arrests Friday night. Deputies identified the drivers as Sonne Lavelle, 65, of Binghamton, New York, and Justin McRitchie, 38, of Pleasant Valley, New York.
