Wastewater Issues Cause Odor in Fort Fairfield
FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine (WAGM) - If you’ve driven through Fort Fairfield recently and noticed a bad smell, you’re not the only one. According to the Fort Fairfield Utilities District, the odor is coming from the wastewater treatment plant. Officials say the smell is the result of low dissolved oxygen levels within the treatment lagoons. When those levels get too low, it can create noticeable odors in the area. District staff say they are monitoring the situation and working to restore stable treatment conditions.
