Classical music trio to perform at UMPI

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – The University of Maine at Presque Isle presents the award-winning members of Trio JIM — John Newell on piano, Ina Litera on viola and Matt Goeke on cello — for an afternoon performance of both original and classic works at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 28 at UMPI’s Gauvin Family Center for Cultural Arts in Wieden Hall.

Annual youth fishing derby scheduled

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — In preparation for the annual Presque Isle Elks’ “Hooked on Fishing, Not Drugs” Youth Fishing Derby, the Enfield hatchery of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, stocked Mantle Lake in Presque Isle with 600 8- to 11 inch long trout on May 27. Third- and fourth-grade students from the Easton Elementary School will be assisting with the stocking by distributing the trout around the lake with five-gallon buckets.

Agency exhibit showcases Monticello painter

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – The Aroostook Area Agency on Aging is participating in the First Friday Art Night on June 6 with an exhibition by Monticello painter Alex Rino. Rino is a self-taught New England artist and author. Her love of art began with illustrated children’s books she brought home from the library, most notably “The Bee Man of Orn” by P.J. Lynch and “The Spiderwick Chronicles” by Tony Diterlizzi. She was inspired to pursue art at age 14 after meeting her artistic hero at a book signing.
