Sebring students get nature lessons at Louisville camp

Fifth and sixth graders from Sebring Local School District took part in an outdoor education camp during October at Canaan Acres Christian Camp. The visit included a large number of activities, both indoors and outdoors. Highlights included candle and butter making; weaving, in which they made scarves; horseback riding, fishing, archery and pond investigation; tree and weed investigations; hiking; and team-building activities. The students also received survival training, and enjoyed glow-in-the-dark bowling. Officials from Raptor Hallow Sanctuary in Alliance also visited with youngsters, who watched birds in flight around the room. They also learned about birds in our area of Ohio and a few from around the world. The visits to the camp were Oct. 19-21 for the fifth grade, and Oct. 21-23 for sixth graders. Ohio high school football playoff win erased after unusual ineligible-player scheme

An unusual situation in Ohio has led to one high school football program having to forfeit its opening playoff win and the losing team getting another opportunity in the postseason. According to a report from Josh Weir of The Canton Repository — part of the USA TODAY Network — Liberty (Youngstown, OH) has been removed from the playoffs after the team used an ineligible player in the team's 26-16 opening round win over Canton Central Catholic. 19News received further information, learning that the disqualification stems from an ineligible player swapping jerseys with an eligible player and playing in the game. The report noted that Canton Central Catholic head coach Jeff Lindesmith was told that a fan of Liberty informed a Canton Central Catholic staff member of the swap. Liberty's athletic director Todd Smith was informed of the situation by that staff member shortly after. Smith later reported the situation to the OHSAA, leading to Liberty's disqualification. The Panthers entered the game with a 10-1 record and with the win, had advanced to a highly-anticipated second-round meeting with unbeaten Perry (OH). Massillon is a Bigger Fish in the Division II Pond

In 1972 when the OHSAA established the high school football playoffs, the Massillon Tigers were assigned to Class AAA , the highest division based on enrollment. Later, Class AAA was renamed Division I as additional brackets were established. And there the Tigers remained for some 41 years. But in 2013, when the OHSAA significantly reduced the number of teams in Division I, Massillon was reclassified as Division II on account of a decline in enrollment at that time. It didn’t matter that they were very competitive within the previous assignment. Regardless, they appear to have settled quite comfortably into Division II, to the dismay of many other teams in that group.
