Questioning the location of Framingham's new elementary school | Letter
As usual, the School Committee is befuddling in its planning of new school construction . Why is a replacement of Hemenway being built in Ashland? Isn't that a bit far flung? Wasn't the Wilson School replacement built to accommodate that part of Town with loss of Memorial, etc.? The larger question involves why the School Dept, Council recognize growth at the lower grade level, but not the need for accommodating it at the high school level. Shouldn't the new building be a high school? Maybe the Marian building would be ideal. Sorry to interrupt your reverie. ‘This proposal terrifies me’: Students, teachers plead with BPS not to close Charlestown High School
Students and teachers are p leading with Boston Public Schools to keep Charlestown High School open. A long-term facilities plan proposes closing the school in June 2028 because enrollment has dropped significantly. A vote is scheduled for next month to consider that proposal. On Wednesday night , the school committee meeting was packed, with nearly 100 people signed up to speak as students, parents, and teachers urged the district to keep the school open. Superintendent Mary Skipper cited enrollment challenges and said this year’s entering K-2 cohort has 1,000 fewer students than a decade ago. But Skipper said closing schools and moving programs would consolidate resources to give each student more opportunities at every school. “Our long-term enrollment projections show that in order to best serve our students, we need to reduce the number of schools we operate,” said Skipper. When asked about the proposal, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said, “For too long we have been kicking the can down the road and seeing public education dollars going to keeping half-empty buildings open.” Teachers and students shared their perspective with the school committee. Boston Teachers Union President Erik Berg said, “Four weeks to take a final vote on such a

Court ruling ends Boston high school football team’s playoff hopes after clerical error
Earlier in the week it was announced a Massachusetts high school football program would miss the postseason due a clerical error regarding its schedule. Days later, that ruling was upheld despite an injunction filed by Boston Public Schools. The Boston Globe reported Friday, Nov. 6, that the injunction filed to allow Boston English/New Mission into the postseason was denied by Suffolk Superior Court Judge Gillian Feiner . English's game against O'Bryant (MA) on Oct. 30 was the game in question as no one from Boston Public Schools submitted it on the scheduling platform the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) uses with its Sept. 18 deadline. Because of that, the game was counted as a scrimmage and not a regular season game. Boston Public Schools argued the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association did not correctly apply its own rule, MIAA rule 34.6 , and game against Bryant should have been counted as a forfeit. The Bulldogs finished the season 4-2 and did not meet the seven games needed to qualify for the postseason. Had it been counted as a forfeit, they would have qualified for the postseason playing as a lower seed. “We are disappointed that our MIAA appeal was denied,” a
