In Austin, Texas, Tech Layoffs Are Reshaping Who Buys and What Sells
Austin’s residential real estate market has long been associated with tech-driven demand. But in 2026, the buyer pool powering the city’s housing activity looks different than it did even two years ago, according to Shivraj Grewal, founder of Grewal RE Group. In their place, a different cohort is stepping forward: medical professionals, C-suite executives, and employees at companies like Tesla and SpaceX that continue to hire. The shift is not just changing who buys. It is reshaping which price segments move and which ones stall.

While large Southeastern cities like Atlanta and Charlotte are highly rated for renters, it's Austin, Texas — the "Live Music Capital of the World" — that tops the list.
