Emergency Preparedness Fair draws exhibitors and citizens

Visitors received “passports” that obliged them to visit the various presenters in order to win prizes. No boys allowed: Women leading Central Texas law enforcement agencies highlighted
SAN MARCOS, Texas — In a conference room at the San Marcos Embassy Suites, there are girls only. No boys allowed. That’s because in honor of Women's History Month, the 2024 Women in Criminal Justice conference highlighted three women leading law enforcement agencies in Austin and Travis County for the first time: Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez, UT Police Chief Eve Stephens, and interim Austin Police Chief Robin Henderson.

, , The new must-do destination for your Wimberley Bucket List is the new mural at the Wimberley Valley Museum at the Wimberley Institute of Cultures, 14068 RR12. Stretching to cover all four walls of a shed directly behind the museum, the hand painted mural tells the story of Wimberley at different times in its history. Bo Bowman running unopposed for City Council Place 2. I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the City again as a Councilman. I enjoyed my first term several years ago, and I’ve decided to throw my hat in the ring again for another opportunity. While family and work responsibilities pulled me away after my first term, I tried to maintain a connection to City government. Over the past two and a half years, I have served on both the Ethics Committee and the Transportation Advisory Board. I couldn’t be prouder of all the progress the City has made over the last five years: new bathrooms, better parking options, new signage and a working sewer system in the downtown area have all improved life here in Wimberley.
San Marcos introduces first all-electric fleet vehicles in new green initiative
SAN MARCOS, Texas — The city of San Marcos introduced its first all-electric vehicles to its fleet as part of new environmental initiatives set by the city council. “We're just trying to do our part," San Marcos Public Works Director Sabas Avila said. "City Council has a strategic initiative to protect the environment and provide environmental stewardship of our natural resources."
Hays County designated 'storm ready' by NWS
Hays County has proactively taken steps to prepare, respond, recover and mitigate future weather-related disasters. The National Weather Service, under its WeatherReady Nation Program, has acknowledged these improvements and efforts to protect the citizens of Hays County. This month, the Hays County Commissioners Court recognized Hays County as a StormReady community. The Hays County Office of Emergency Services accepted the designation, publicly demonstrating a commitment to strengthen the local public safety program.
Wimberleyarts.org seeks student applications
WimberleyArts.org is offering multiple scholarships for creative Wimberley High School, Katherine Anne Porter, homeschooled or gap-year graduates. Valued at a minimum of $5,000 each, the Robert Moreman Memorial Scholarship is a non-traditional scholarship for graduates who are passionate about pursuing higher education for a career in one of Wimberley Arts’ artistic pillars — visual, literary, performing and culinary — or, in a building trade-related profession.
