GC Sports | Statesboro STEAM launches inaugural flag football season
Statesboro STEAM Academy made history this fall with the debut of its girls flag football program, marking another milestone in the school's growing athletic department. Since taking the field for the first time against Southeast Bulloch, Statesboro STEAM's flag football team has continued gaining valuable game experience during its inaugural season. For STEAM Athletic Director Tony Normil , the opportunity to establish a new program represents something much bigger than wins and losses. "It means a lot. The girls are excited. The school is excited. The community is excited," Normil said. "It is going to take some hard work, but we are in it and we're ready." From an Idea to Reality The addition of flag football began with Normil's desire to create more athletic opportunities for students at the new school. "I wanted to start a new sport for the new school and for our students to participate in," Normil said. Normil initially considered adding volleyball or softball before turning his attention to the growing popularity of girls flag football. "I saw how big it was getting and thought what if we can get this going at STEAM," Normil said. In March 2026, Statesboro STEAM received a $10,000 grant

Richmond Hill (5-3) is set to host Lowndes (7-0), the No. 5 ranked team in Class 7A by the Atlanta Journal Constitution, in a Region 1-7A matchup. Windsor Forest football gets win over Harlem with trick play in OT
In his first year as the Windsor Forest football coach, Willie "Mack" Martin is on a mission to build a winning culture within the Knight program. His team got its biggest win yet with a 29-28 overtime victory over visiting Harlem on Friday, Oct. 23. After Harlem junior Keaton Tillery started overtime with a rugged 15-yard touchdown run up the gut as the Bulldogs took a 28-21 lead, the pressure was on the Knight offense ― led by Martin's son, junior quarterback Jayden Martin. After a 6-yard loss on the first Knight overtime play, Martin dropped back and found Dwane Franklin across the middle for a 21-yard touchdown that brought Windsor Forest within a point. It was decision time for Mack Martin and the coach didn't hesitate to make the call to go for two and the win at Islands Stadium. The call was the "Reverse Special" and Jayden Martin handed the ball to Telly Riley who ran left before lateralling it back to Kamari Duncan as the senior rolled to his right and lofted a pass to Martin, who made an adjustment and spun around to his left to make the game-winning grab as the Knight sideline erupted.
