Coroner hosts National Fentanyl Awareness Day event in Ridgeland
A framed list of dates which would rather be forgotten sat on a table as a solemn reminder of those lives lost to fentanyl in Jasper County over the last three years. The list, along with a candle and balloons represented the toll the drug has taken within the county. The display was a part of the National Fentanyl Awareness Day event held May 7 and hosted by Jasper County Coroner Willie Aiken at his office in Ridgeland.

'Energizing our students for a brighter future' theme of Palmetto Electric Annual Meeting
RIDGELAND, SC – 4,933 members registered and voted at Palmetto Electric Cooperative’s 2024 Annual Meeting, and the fun-filled event was once again a success. Drive-thru registration and voting were held May 2, 3, and 4 at the co-op’s Ridgeland office. Members were able to drive-thru, register and cast a vote for the Board of Directors election. Palmetto Electric employees were on hand to distribute registration gifts and assist members with any questions.
Polaris Tech Charter School elects new board members
Polaris Tech Charter School in Ridgeland held an election April 23-25 which allowed staff and enrolled families to vote for its board of directors. Polaris Tech is a state-approved, tuition-free charter school serving kindergarten through high school students from Jasper, Beaufort, Hampton and Colleton counties. The school is located on Grays Highway, directly across from the Ridgeland Claude Dean Airport.
