LIVONIA (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police troopers shut down southbound I-275 near Livonia, Wednesday morning, to investigate a reported shooting on the freeway.

As it turned out, police determined that no shots were fired in what MSP called a road rage incident on the freeway, between 5 Mile and 7 Mile roads.

The call came in at around 7 a.m. from a 53-year-old Novi man who said another driver, identified as a 31-year-old Flint man, threw a bottle at his car — then fired a gunshot at him.

Although the Novi man said he saw the muzzle flash, police said an investigation found that there was no gunshot fired.

While the Flint man, who is a CPL holder did have a gun in his vehicle, MSP said all rounds were accounted for and no evidence was located during a shell casing sweep of the freeway.

The Flint man did, however, admit to throwing the bottle.

“There is no reason to allow a driving mistake to put other drivers at risk.” said MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw, in a statement. “If you do see an incident like this, do not engage with the drivers and call 911.”

It's unclear at this time what charged may be filed in this case. MSP said investigators report will be submitted to the prosecutor.

All lanes of southbound I-275 has since reopened.
