GROSSE POINTE WOODS (WWJ) — Grosse Pointe Woods officials are working to pinpoint the source of a “strong natural gas odor” that can be smelled throughout the city.

However, a DTE spokesperson told WWJ they have investigated and determined the source is not a natural gas leak.

“DTE investigated…and determined there is no cause for concern at this time,” an alert from the Grosse Pointe Woods Department of Public Safety, issued around 11:05 a.m. Saturday, stated.

Grosse Pointe Woods Police described the odor as “affecting multiple communities” and “miles wide.”

They said, as of now, they have been unable to locate the source of the odor.

    DTE released the following statement:

"This morning, Grosse Pointe Woods residents alerted DTE to odors in the area, and our crews have determined that natural gas is not the cause of the odor. DTE has shared this information with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), and the Detroit Fire Department is also investigating a possible source of the odor."

This is a developing story. Stay with WWJ Newsradio 950 on air, online and on the Audacy app  for the latest information.
