Lower Burrell first responders receive new fire truck, ambulance
Several years of fundraising and waiting finally paid off for Lower Burrell’s Kinloch Volunteer Fire Company. Kinloch took delivery of a new pumper truck at the end of April. The company has been raising money for the past two or three years to assist with its purchase, Chief Ted Hereda said.

After dealing with a web of cracks and faded lines for years, Kiski Area High School tennis players have a home court they can be proud of. The Kiski Area School District unveiled five restored tennis courts May 8 with a U.S. Open-style blue and green color palette. The courts are open to the public.

Report card: Santora picked up a pair of top-three finishes at the WPIAL track and field championships this week. She was the runner-up in the Class 2A 1,600-meter run (5 minutes, 16.16 seconds) and knocked nearly 2 seconds off her season best. She also placed third in the 3,200 (11:32.25), finishing more than 4 seconds better than her personal best. Santora, who was 47th at the PIAA cross country championships in the fall, also helped Knoch finish third at the WPIAL team championships earlier this spring.
Shaler Township first responders host annual 'bike rodeo' to teach local kids road safety
SHALER, Pa. (KDKA) - Community members and first responders in Shaler Township came out to enjoy the sunny weather on Saturday for the annual 'bike rodeo.'Kids in attendance could participate in an obstacle course, giveaways and even enter a raffle for a brand-new bike, all while learning the rules of the road ahead of peak riding season."This event is great. We give away free helmets to every kid that comes here. We also have 21 bicycles that we raffle off so that helmet and that bike go hand-in-hand, and it's great for the summer," Shaler Township Patrolman Joe Spalick said.This is just one of many similar events across the region this spring promoting road safety for the youngest generation.
