Three charged for high-speed chase involving children
Shamokin, Pa. — Three people were charged after they drove at high speeds through Shamokin with three young children. Darwin Sanchez, 23, of Shamokin, was pulled over on March 13 after a police officer observed him traveling at a high rate of speed and blowing through several stop signs on Shamokin Street. Sanchez had several passengers in his vehicle, including three young children and Savanna Johnson, 22, of Coal Township, according to the affidavit. ...
Pottsville man charged with choking girlfriend in overnight assault
A Pottsville man was charged with strangulation and other crimes after police said he fled on foot when they investigated a domestic disturbance early Monday. Police said they responded at 304 Fairview St., Pottsville, at about 2:20 a.m. for a domestic disturbance in progress. While en route, officers were advised the male actor, later identified as Dezmond Sharmar Reams, 30, had left the residence, according to police Detective Joseph Welsh.

Residents in several municipalities woke up to disappointment to see their annual town parades canceled because of predicted thunderstorms and bad weather. Initial forecasts showed problematic weather beginning as soon as 5 a.m., leading to some of the cancelations. Then projections were pushed back to the afternoon.

Danville honors service members on Memorial Day
Danville, Pa. — Under gray skies, Danville's Memorial Day ceremony went off without the threatened rain, as veterans, American Legion members, and onlookers honored those fallen Monday morning. The ceremony began at the Riverside Bridge at 10 a.m. with an invocation by Anthony Turel Jr., a U.S. Air Force veteran and VFW chaplain, followed by a tribute of flowers tossed from the bridge to honor those who were buried or lost at sea. Second-graders Ava Lynch and Naila Budic, along with pre-K student Piper Brown served as the flower girls for the ceremony. Danville's American Legion Post 40 Honor Guard gave the rifle salute before U.S. Navy veteran and Honor Guard Bugler Marvin Sassaman played "Taps." Following the bridge ceremony, the parade traveled through downtown Danville. The Memorial Park Ceremony, which was to take place at the park on Bloom Street, was moved to the Danville Middle School due to weather.

Fire damages business and homes in Schuylkill County
POTTSVILLE, Pa. — A fire on Thursday night caused a building to collapse and left people without a place to live in Schuylkill County. The Wire Tele View building collapsed during an intense fire along East Market Street in Pottsville. Crews were back on Friday morning. Clearing away debris so investigators could search for a cause of the fire that took hours to get under control after a gas leak caused delays when the building collapsed.
