Unisource Electric (UNSE) is proposing a 200 megawatt expansion of Golden Valley's Black Mountain Generating Station. The utility is requesting the Arizona Corporation Commission Power Plant and Transmission Line Siting Committee remove itself from its oversight jurisdiction of the project.

Despite what you heard during an outburst at the last City Council meeting, there are times when the seven council members do not unanimously agree on an issue. That happened at the April 16th meeting when a seemingly simple agenda item was presented authorizing the city to apply for its own liquor license at the refurbished Optimum Community Center. The application was approved on a 6-to-1 vote, and I was the lone dissenting vote.
Accident at Meadows and Highway 95
One person suffered unspecified injuries in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 95 at Meadows Drive on Monday. According to Bullhead City Police Department reports, the driver of a southbound Ford Mustang was stopped at the red light at Meadows when it was struck from behind by a Dodge Durango Citadel. The force of the impact spun the Mustang around into the northbound lanes. The driver of the Mustang was taken by Bullhead City Fire Department ambulance to Western Arizona Regional Medical Center. BULLHEAD CITY — The impending opening of Bullhead City Fire Department's Station 7 remains just that: Impending. Fire Chief Patrick Moore said he the update he provided at Tuesday's meeting of the Bullhead City Fire District governing board was "hopefully the last month" he provided with a less-than-definitive forecast on the opening of the new station in the Laughlin Ranch neighborhood east of the Bullhead Parkway.
No injuries in Monday afternoon crash at Highway 95 and Central Avenue
BULLHEAD CITY — No one was injured in what was initially described as a four-vehicle collision on Highway 95 just south of the intersection of Highway 95 and Central Avenue. Emergency crews responded about 4:29 p.m. to reports of the multi-vehicle crash that was blocking the outside lane of Highway 95. Arriving crews reported that the crash was between only two vehicles, a black Jeep and a black Toyota Camry.
Trial set for Mohave Valley suspect in fatal vehicle vs. pedestrian accident
KINGMAN — The first criminal trial in 2025 was set Wednesday for a Mohave Valley man charged with fatally injuring a pedestrian with his car in November 2023. Anthony David Duarte, 30, is charged with manslaughter. He is currently out of custody on a bond.
Man and son shot with paintballs in a road rage incident
BULLHEAD CITY — No one was injured Saturday morning in an apparent road rage incident. Bullhead City Police and Fire crews responded about 10 a.m. to a 911 call from a man saying he had been shot in the neck with what appeared to be a rubber bullet and that his 8-year-old son was shot in the leg. Neither of the two were bleeding. A second child in the vehicle was not hit.
Cause of boat fire in the desert unknown, officials said
FORT MOHAVE — No one was injured and nothing else was in danger when an abandoned fiberglass boat in the desert caught fire Monday afternoon. The boat was in a gravel area, with no brush nearby, and there was no chance of it spreading, said Fort Mojave Mesa Fire Marshal John Clark.
