River Valley baseball beats Kingman 19-4 in final regular season game
KINGMAN – The River Valley High School baseball team dominated their final game of the regular season, scoring a season-high 19 runs in a 19-4 win over Kingman High School. Jeremiah Putt made the start and tossed three scoreless innings, allowing only one hit, before Hunter Koehler came in relief and struck out nine in four innings. Offensively, Kai Cornell led the way with a triple and four RBIs, while Koehler also had a three-bagger and drove in two, along with Mickey Smith, Mikey Gonzalez, Zain Bruton, and Wyatt Maxwell. CJ Hunter and Fernando Campos also had RBIs to help the Dust Devils improve to 14-6 this year.
Teen sentenced to 18 years in prison for deadly crash in Kingman
16-year-old Brady Shuffler pled guilty to two counts of manslaughter and aggravated assault for the incident that happened last year. He was tried as an adult and today sentenced to 18 years. It was a year ago Saturday when Shuffler was driving more than 130 miles an hour when he lost control of his car, hit two electric poles, and ejected all four of the passengers in the car. 17-year-old Tatum Meins and 15-year-old Sherene Walema died. All five teens went to Lee Williams High School, and the two girls were on the softball team. Today, as 911 calls were played, multiple family members and friends had to step outside, saying it was like reliving a nightmare.
MCC student selected as 2024 Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar
BULLHEAD CITY – Mohave Community College announced Jennifer Schaefle was selected as a 2024 Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar, winning a $1,500 scholarship. Schaefle was one of 50 students across the country to have received this scholarship. This is the second time she has been honored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. In 2023 she was recognized as a Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar, which earned her a $1,000 scholarship. She will use the funds to pay for additional educational fees like books.
