George MacIntyre is a five-star quarterback recruit and certainly the crown jewel of the Tennessee Volunteers' 2025 recruiting class.

After 247 Sports' updated recruiting rankings, the first part of that sentence is just barely still true.

247 Sports revealed their updated five-star rankings on Wednesday afternoon, and MacIntyre just made the cut.  The 6'5", 190-pound quarterback out of Brentwood Academy checked in as the #30 overall prospect and #5 quarterback.  The top 32 players are listed as five stars.

"I mentioned trying to find a landing spot for George MacIntyre," 247 Sports' national recruiting analyst Cooper Petagna said.  "He ends up sliding back from number ten to number thirty, and this is a guy that we really, really liked on the field despite his team only winning two games last season.  So, coming into the offseason you have that context.  We got to see him twice in the month of April.  Oxford and in Nashville.  Really, physically, there was a lot to be desired.  He will have another opportunity here in the next couple of weeks at the Elite 11 finals in Los Angeles, so going to be a guy and certainly a storyline to follow here."

Recruiting rankings are often fickle things, with players rising and falling despite not being on the field in game situations.  However, they matter as far as the perception of a program.  Five stars brings interest from other players and positive attention to your program.

As Petagna indicated, offseason activities such as camp performances can go a long way into determining a player's ranking going into their final season.  A long way being 20 spots in this case for MacIntyre, which seems kind of heavy handed solely on camp performances.

Still, MacIntyre is among the quarterbacks participating in the popular Elite 11 camp later this offseason in Los Angeles.  Typically, the top consensus quarterback prospects are invited and compete against each other in various drills.

MacIntyre committed to Josh Heupel and Tennessee back on January 22 as the number 9 overall prospect in the country and the number 2 quarterback at that time.  We'll see if he'll be able to work his way back up towards that lofty place either in Los Angeles or this fall for Brentwood Academy.
