Iowa sailor who died in World War II prison camp to be laid to rest in Sioux City
The remains of an Iowa sailor who died in a Japanese prison camp more than 80 years ago will be buried in Sioux City Saturday. Fireman first class Robert Shove was born in Cherokee in 1922 and lived most of his life in Sioux City before joining the Navy in 1940. Shove’s nephew Michael O’Brien says his uncle was captured in Corrigador as he and his shipmates from the U.S.S. Canopus fought the Japanese. He was then sent on the “Bataan Death March” to a prison in the Philippine Islands.

Hinton denied championship again in five-set loss to Beckman Catholic
CORALVILLE — Hinton reached the Class 2A state title match two years in a row and the end result was the same, a five-set loss. This year, the top-seeded Blackhawks fell victim to third-seeded Beckman Catholic in Thursday’s contest at Xtream Arena. The Trailblazers won the odd-numbered sets 25-23, 25-19 and 15-10 while the Blackhawks won the even-numbered frames 25-15 and 25-19. Sophomore Addy Ortegren said it was hard to be on the losing end of a five-set championship match for the second year in a row.
