Law lets police check for minors inside vape shops, tobacco retailers
Starting July 1, police won’t have to get a warrant to enter vape shops and stores that sell tobacco products and let customers use the products in the store. The change is included in a bill that passed the legislature and has been signed into law by the governor. Representative Taylor Collins of Mediapolis said lawmakers heard concerns about potential underage drinking in lounges in the Iowa City area that do not have a liquor license, but do have a license to sell tobacco products.
Police arrest man accused of causing November 2023 lockdown at Iowa City High School
Iowa City Police have arrested a man who may who forced a local high school to go into lockdown. Lawrence Russell, 39 of Iowa City, was arrested Monday in connection with a Nov. 8 incident near Iowa City High School that caused the school to activate its "Secure Mode" safety protocols. The situation stopped students from leaving the building at the end of the day as scheduled.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - An Iowa City man is accused of violently attacking a pregnant woman for more than an hour in front of a child. 20-year-old Carl Marshall is facing three counts of domestic abuse assault, one count of false imprisonment, and a one count of child endangerment.

A new springtime festival is coming to Iowa City as the Move Ya Body Reggae Fest makes its debut on the first Saturday in May.
