Grammy winners Third Coast Percussion visit Elkhart Lake Nov. 20

ELKHART LAKE – Grammy-winning Third Coast Percussion will perform at the Ronald Mauk Auditorium in Elkhart Lake at 7 p.m. Nov. 20. The Chicago-based percussion quartet will appear as part of its 20th anniversary, according to a community announcement. The concert is intended for the entire family. The program will span a range of musical styles rooted in the group's classical training and collaborations. The ensemble has collaborated with choreographers Twyla Tharp and Lil Buck and composers Philip Glass and Danny Elfman, according to the announcement. "The great thing about percussion is that it’s a part of every style of music and every culture in the world," founding member David Skidmore said. Third Coast Percussion will work with Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah students Third Coast Percussion also will conduct hands-on workshops with Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah students Nov. 20. The workshops are designed to "help students begin to explore their instruments as a vehicle of creativity, and open the door to becoming great musicians," according to the announcement. November is Native American Heritage Month and Indigenous artists are celebrating by showcasing their work. On Nov. 7 and 8, the Woodland Indian Art Show and Market will feature the work of 45 Indigenous artisans at the Oneida Hotel in Green Bay. Carvings, jewelry, weaving, pottery, quillwork and beadwork will all be on sale. As part of the event, the Thee Clans Ballroom will feature the Oneida Hymn Singers, an Indigenous fashion show and a book reading of “Drums Along the Fox” by Rick Church. On Saturday, Nov. 14, the Native Art Market will feature more than 40 Indigenous artists at the Arts and Literature Laboratory in Madison. Indigenous artwork typically blends cultural meaning with functionality. Oneida artists in Wisconsin, for example, are earning praise for incorporating Haudenosaunee raised beadwork into their pieces.
