SHEBOYGAN — United Auto Workers Local 833 will host the 12th annual Casino Night to raise funds for several community organizations. The March 2 event, hosted by the union's Education Committee, will have Las Vegas-style games, like Texas Hold ‘Em, Craps, Blackjack and Roulette. There will be prizes, a raffle and entertainment from the Kiel Lions Club. Food includes sloppy joes, coleslaw, chips and dessert.

2-26-24 crash landing at fdl county airport
Nobody was injured when an airplane crash landed at the Fond du Lac County Airport to avoid deer on the runway. Shortly before 6pm Friday the pilot of the plane reported he was about 500 feet above the ground with the landing gear and flaps extended when he saw several deer running down the runway toward him. The pilot said he was too low and flying too slow to go around attempted to “sidestep” to the taxiway but landed in between the runway and taxiway in the grass. The prop of the plane struck the ground and the nose and left main gear collapsed. The pilot, a passenger and pet dog were not injured. The FAA is investigating.

SASD Invites Public to Review Urban, Farnsworth Rebuild Plans
The public is being invited to learn about plans to address two aging Sheboygan schools that would require a referendum on the November ballot. Community meetings to present the issues and tour the facilities will be held at 6:30 p.m. this Thursday, February 29th at Urban Middle School, and on Monday, March 4th at Farnsworth Middle School. The likely referendum will request some $126 million in order to build a new Urban Middle School on Mill and Najacht Roadsand completely removing the existing facility, while a new Farnsworth Middle School would be built on the existing property in phases, using the existing school while the new one is built. A Citizens Advisory Committee convened in 2019 made those recommendations to the board in 2022, and Bray Architects was hired to develop the plans that will be reviewed at the upcoming meetings.

The National Weather Service, in conjunction with Fond du Lac County Emergency Management, will be hosting the annual storm spotter training. The session will run from 6:30pm until 8:30pm on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the Fond du Lac County Board Chambers, 160 S. Macy Street, Fond du Lac, WI. Training will be led by a meteorologist from the National Weather Service and is FREE and open to the public. It is highly recommended for members of law enforcement, fire service, EMS, dispatchers and other first responders and amateur radio operators. Pre-registration is NOT required. The training provides information on severe weather safety, as well as, the differences between watches and warnings. Information will be presented on how to help the National Weather Service as a trained spotter, including what needs to be reported to the NWS and how to submit reports. It is important for everyone to know about the different types of severe weather, as this helps residents stay safe by being properly prepared for when severe weather occurs.

The Fond du Lac city council this week is considering a TNR policy to deal with a feral cat population. Under a trap, neuter, return program, feral cats are trapped, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and returned to the area where they were trapped. City manager Joe Moore says he believes the policy is compatible with the city’s Bird City status, but also will put the feral cat population in check. The issue has come to light following what animal rescue organizations say has been an explosion of the feral cat population in the city in recent years.
