    Florida Hits Wild 115 Degrees

It is not supposed to be 115 degrees F this time of year, but that temperature is the highest in August. Yet Key West hit a record for any time of the year when the mercury reached 115 degrees, making it one of the hottest places in the world.

The rest of southern Florida had temperatures almost as high, particularly with the heat index. The Washington Post reported,” Human-caused climate change is helping to intensify this heat. Climate Central’s Climate Shift Index indicates that it is making the ongoing extreme heat three to four times more likely.”

Florida is another part of the country that has become like Phoenix. Last year, Arizona had 54 days when the temperature was over 100 degrees. It is impossible for many people to stay out for hours at a time, and air conditioning strains the electricity grid to the limit.

To make matters worse, hurricane season has started, and Florida is often at the heart of large storms. Warm Atlantic water fuels hurricanes, and the rapidly warming Atlantic will make them worse.
