Cerise embraces Eaton High School traditions
This year brings several new opportunities because it marks the first year of Anthony Cerise being an Eaton Red! Mr. Cerise is excited to leave his mark this year as one of the new teachers in the building. Mr. Cerise is teaching math this year, teaching the classes Algebra I , Algebra II, and Honors Algebra II.

3 arrested for attempted murder in Loveland shooting
Loveland police have arrested three people and charged them with attempted murder for their suspected involvement in a Sept. 21 shooting incident near the Interstate 25 and U.S. Highway 34 interchange that left two people with life-threating injuries. Jose Angel Silva, 20, of Thornton; Andres Gabino Valles, 20, of Commerce City; and a 16-year-old who was not identified were arrested Nov. 4 on two counts apiece of attempted murder in the first degree and single counts of assault in the first degree, illegal discharge of a firearm — all felonies — as well as conspiracy to commit a felony, Loveland police said in a Nov. 5 news release. All three also face a sentence enhancement for their alleged crime of violence and violent crime causing death or serious bodily injury. Valles’ arrest charges also included a felony count of possession of a deadly weapon by a previous offender, the news release said. "The suspects are believed to have known one of the victims, and evidence gathered during the investigation confirmed this was a targeted incident," the news release from Loveland police spokesperson Chris Padgett said. Catalyst Developer Mulling Ballot Question Rejection
In the aftermath of Greeley voters’ Tuesday rejection of an 0.6% sales and use tax increase, developer Martin Lind is mulling his options. According to the Greeley Tribune, Lind’s Windsor-based Water Valley Co. wants to develop the city-owned Catalyst entertainment district and surrounding Cascadia mixed-use development on Greeley’s western edge. The Greeley City Council put the sales tax question — 60 cents on a $100 non-food purchase — on the ballot to help pay debt service on $115 million already spent on planning and infrastructure to make Catalyst and the Civic Campus possible.

Fall leaves bring fat bears
Fat Bear Week is a week to celebrate the transformation from cubs in the spring to large bears preparing for hibernation in the winter. The tradition was founded by Mike Fitz in 2014. Fitz was a Katmai National Park and Preserve ranger, who focused on the preservation of brown bears within the park. The original launch of Fat Bear Week was on Sep. 30, 2014, and was originally known as Fat Bear Tuesday. The launch gained popularity and developed into a week-long bracket, with online voters in 2015. The Language Arts teacher at Eaton High School, Emily Sorenson, stated, “Fat Bear Week is a quirky way for the public to engage with an intimidating species without damaging their habitat or disrupting the bear’s environment. I learned about it years ago while listening to my favorite podcast, Ologies with Alie Ward, and I’ve never looked back!” As popularity has increased, people are beginning to respect the environment more and show courtesy to wildlife and animals.
