SLO County Italian restaurant closes. ‘You will always be a part of our family'

A family-run Italian restaurant in North County shut its doors for good this week after 22 years. Lombardi’s Pasta Familia in Cambria had its last day in business Monday, according to a sign posted outside the restaurant’s door. “This restaurant has always been so much more than a business to us,” the sign said. “It has been a part of our family, our lives, and our story. Over the years, many of you have become more than customers. You have become friends, familiar faces, and an extension of our family. We have been fortunate to share so many meals, celebrations, conversations, and memories with all of you.” Monica Melendrez has run Lombardi’s since 2021, when her husband, Nestor Hernandez, lost his battle with COVID-19 and passed away . “For over 15 years, my husband poured his heart and soul into this restaurant,” the sign said. “After losing him to COVID, I made the decision to carry on what he had built, keeping our family-owned Italian restaurant going and continuing to serve the amazing community that has supported us through so much.” Now, Melendrez is closing Lombardi’s to “slow down, spend more precious time with her family, and embrace the moments

As last night showed, big money in elections doesn’t always translate to wins.

Aric Sleeper here, coming down from the buzz of election night and ruminating on the wins and losses in the cities of Seaside and Monterey, which I cover. One thing that surprised me was that the campaigns in those races with the most cash in their coffers have tentatively lost—as was the case with Alex Miller in Seaside, Vicki Nohrden and Vince Malfitano in Monterey, and Measure H in Salinas—a trend that seemed to be reflected nationally.

Superior Court of San Benito County celebrates Adoption Month

Information provided by Superior Court of San Benito County. Lea este artículo en español aquí. Adoption Month is a nationwide initiative that raises awareness of the importance of adoption. Each year, thousands of children across the country join permanent families, gaining the stability and sense of belonging they need to thrive. California superior courts play an essential role in completing the adoption process because only a court can legally establish a parent-child relationship. Adoption agencies and social workers coordinate placements and home studies, and a judge must sign an adoption decree before an adoption becomes official, permanent, and legally binding.

Salinas voters reject bid to repeal rent stabilization

A ballot measure to repeal rent stabilization in Salinas was defeated Tuesday after the final batch of election night results came in. Measure H, if passed, would have repealed four tenant-related ordinances, including a requirement that all rental units be part of a citywide registry. After the final election night report from the County of Monterey Elections Department, “no” votes led by 59.1% to 40.9%, with 11,590 votes opposed and 8,013 in favor. Protect Salinas Renters, the community group behind the No on H campaign, said in a statement that “the results of Measure H are clear: Salinas voters turned out in force to stand with renters and working families.” “This wasn’t just an election, it was a movement,” the statement continued. “It began when community groups and residents first started organizing for protections after intense rent hikes during the pandemic hit the community hard. The movement picked up pace when a newly elected city council majority voted to strip away critical renter protections in 2025. Since then, tenants, labor unions, community organizations, and concerned residents united under a shared understanding: families deserve stability, dignity, and protection from displacement. “Our gratitude runs deep for every volunteer who knocked on doors,

P.G. Mayor Nick Smith appears headed for a win; an incumbent and a newcomer lead for council.

About 50 people are gathered in the courtyard of the Kimpton Mirador Hotel in downtown Pacific Grove just after 8pm on Tuesday, Nov 3, sipping wine, munching on French fries and charcuterie while waiting for local election results. Although they are there to support Mayor Nick Smith, running for a second term against former councilmember Luke Coletti in a non-partisan race, they are in a good mood as more Democrats nationally were reported to win seats in the House and Senate.
