Man charged in crash that killed Wichita woman is extradited from Colorado
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A 24-year-old man has been charged in connection to an east Wichita crash that killed an 82-year-old woman. Wichita police said Austin Hedges, of Greeley, Colorado, was charged April 18 with reckless involuntary manslaughter and arrested in his hometown the following day. He was extradited from Colorado and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on Tuesday.
Family saved by smoke detectors recently installed by Poudre Fire Authority
A northern Fort Collins family says they are fortunate to all be alive after an overnight fire nearly trapped them while they were sleeping. The Lopez family's home recently burned down, but smoke alarms helped alert them before they were trapped. "We were sleeping because it was 3:30 in the morning," said Lorena Lopez, the homeowner. Lopez said she, and her children, were lucky to be alive following the fire. "My daughter woke up screaming. She heard a noise," Lopez said. The sound was coming from a smoke alarm in the home. Avery Morrow sentenced after 3rd-degree assault charges
