The Illinois High School Association introduced several major proposals that center around alleged growing disparities between public and private schools across high school sports statewide. The list of proposals can be found here . Proposal 8, submitted by the West Suburban Conference out of the Chicago area, would place public (boundary) and private (non-boundary) schools in separate playoffs altogether in sports that feature three or more classifications. In football specifically, public schools would compete in Classes 1A-6A according by enrollment, while private schools would participate in Classes 7A-8A. SHG pro connection: SHG's Demetrius Roberson follows former Illini receiver's footsteps In other sports, non-boundary schools would be grouped into one playoff, while boundary schools compete in their own separate classifications. Proposal 15, also out of the West Suburban Conference, is less drastic. It would allow public and private schools to compete for the same state trophies but would carve out separate pathways for public and private schools to reach the state semifinals. For example, private schools could be placed in one or two quadrants that lead to the state semis, while public schools occupy the remaining quadrants. Proposal 0, submitted by Williamsville, would enhance the enrollment multiplier that is levied on

(The Center Square) – Liberty Justice Center is preparing a federal lawsuit against Community High School District 128, arguing its gender support guidelines and overnight student room-assignment procedures violate parental rights, religious freedom and protections for female students. The organization’s plans follow an Oct. 21 response from the district’s attorneys rejecting its allegations and maintaining that the policies comply with federal and state law. Kathryn Cosgrove, an attorney with Liberty Justice Center, told The Center Square the organization had hoped its initial demand letter would prompt district officials to change the policies without litigation. “We received their letter on Oct. 21, stating that they think that their policies are in compliance with the law, which is simply not true,” Cosgrove said. The dispute centers on the district’s Gender Support Guidelines and Procedures for Assigning Rooms for Overnight Student Trips. Liberty Justice Center argues the policies fail to adequately protect parents’ rights to information about their children’s education and school experiences. Cosgrove said the organization learned about the policies through a mother who provided copies of the documents and connected the organization with concerned families. She declined to disclose specific details about potential plaintiffs while the organization prepares its case. One
