Great Bend BOE not ready to enter into lunch agreement with new daycare
The consent agenda at a board of education meeting is usually the easy part. The USD 428 Board of Education entered into a healthy debate Monday evening regarding food services to the new Bright Beginnings childcare facility in Great Bend. Board Member Chad Burroughs voiced the loudest concern to Superintendent Khris Thexton.
Swing bed program available at The University of Kansas Health System
The University of Kansas Health System Great Bend Campus offers swing bed care, a service provided in rural hospitals with a Medicare service agreement. The program allows patients who are ready to move from acute care to skilled nursing care to stay in the same hospital for their care instead of being moved to a nursing facility.
USD 428 board approves hefty increase for lunches at Great Bend schools
For the first time in some three decades, the USD 428 Board of Education found itself in a new home Monday evening. With an extended executive session at the new District Education Center at 1809 24th Street in Great Bend, the board remained in the new confines for nearly five hours. A decision to approve school lunch costs came earlier in the evening. Food Services Director Kristy Alvord laid out the reason for the change.
