NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A Long Island man was sentenced to prison on Wednesday for orchestrating a years-long conspiracy in which fake prescriptions were used to divert Oxycodone and other medications to resell illegally on the streets.

Trevor Lawry, 38, was sentenced to eight years in prison, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York Breon Peace announced.

According to court documents, between February 2018 and March 2020, Lawry led a drug trafficking organization that used forged paper prescription forms which came from stolen prescription pads to get controlled substances such as Oxycodone, Adderall, Alprazolam and Promethazine with Codeine syrup.

Lawry worked with a co-conspirator who was a pharmacist at D.R.A. Pharmakon, Inc. in Hempstead, where more than 500 fraudulent prescriptions for these medications were filled, prosecutors said.

“While communities across the country reeled from an opioid epidemic, this defendant operated an elaborate scheme that illegally diverted huge quantities of prescription medications into the hands of drug users, including people struggling with addiction,” Peace said. “This Office will continue doing its part to find and hold responsible individuals at all levels of the illegal supply chain who contribute to the scourge of opioids in this District.”

A total of nearly a kilogram’s worth of stolen prescription medication was stolen and later advertised for sale on social media and eventually sold at street level.

In 2014, Lawry was arrested for attempting to fill a false prescription at a Rite Aid pharmacy in West Hempstead, according to the Nassau County police.

When arrested, police found him in possession of 2 bags of MDNA, commonly known as “Molly.”

He was charged with possession of a forged instrument and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
