Pedestrian hit by car on Old Country Road as she tried to cross the street, police say
A 43-year-old woman was struck by a Toyota in Carle Place on Tuesday as she tried to cross the street. Nassau County Police say she was seriously injured. Detectives from the Nassau County's Third Precinct detained the 73-year-old woman behind the wheel of a gray Toyota at the scene of the accident, which took place just before 9 a.m. Monday morning.

An out-of-control drunk driver was charged with manslaughter Tuesday after crashing his car and striking a car, killing two people in Queens, police said. Tamir Khan, 22, was driving a 2013 Audi A4 northbound on 117th Street in South Ozone Park Monday around 4:25 a.m. when he smashed into a Toyota Camry traveling westbound on 111th Avenue. Paul D. Shorter, aged 32, was arrested on Saturday, June 3 for the alleged event, which occurred in May in an East Garden City parking lot, according to Nassau County police.
