High school football playoff picture: Who's in and who needs help

Six spots in the eight-team Class 6, Region B playoff football bracket are set heading into Friday’s final regular-season games. Colonial Forge, Brooke Point, Battlefield, Woodbridge, Gar-Field and Stafford are in win or lose. The only question for them is seeding. Gainesville, Patriot and Independence are vying for the final two spots with all three still in contention even with a loss. The playoffs begin Nov. 13 with the top four seeded teams hosting games. The final Class 6, Region B and Class 3, Region B power point ratings and first-round playoff pairings are scheduled to be posted Friday night after all the final scores are in. Winning the district title has no bearing on playoff positions. Power points determine seeding. Keep in mind this is all unofficial. But to get a sense of how the brackets might break down, let’s start at the top for Class 6, Region B. If current No. 1 Colonial Forge (8-1) beats Massaponax (4-5), it will clinch the region’s top seed as well as home-field advantage through the region playoffs. If Colonial Forge loses and No. 2 Brooke Point (8-1) defeats No. 6 Stafford (7-2) Friday, then the Black-Hawks will earn the top spot.

The Big Blue Button: Loudoun County Installs Emergency Buttons in Rock Ridge

At the start of the 2026-27 school year, Loudoun County Public Schools installed a new security system in classrooms to replace the original system of reporting an emergency with a more efficient system. Previously, if a classroom had a medical or violent emergency, the teacher would have to manually call the front office using a telephone that was attached to a classroom wall.

Gainesville overcomes 0-3 start to become playoff contender

At this point in the season, Tre Cage sees no reason to focus on the what-ifs. Instead, he’s fixated on what’s now. And what’s now is that after starting the season 0-3, his Gainesville football team has a chance to defeat a rival for the first time and by doing so earn an automatic berth in the playoffs. For the second-year head coach, that means letting go of Battlefield’s 21-20 come-from-behind victory over the Cardinals. Or Colonial Forge blocking a Gainesville field-goal attempt with two minutes left to hold on for a 14-13 victory. Those moments are in the past. All that matters is what the Cardinals (5-4) do Friday at Patriot (5-4) in their regular-season finale. A victory puts Gainesville back in the playoffs for the first time since 2024 and ends the Pioneers’ winning streak over the Cardinals at five. Gainesville could still reach the playoffs with a loss, but a victory would mean so much more. “We’re looking to make history and beat Patriot,” Cage said. “Getting into the postseason is the cherry on top.” High school football playoff picture Top offensive performances for Oct. 30 games This Friday's schedule Woodbridge-Gar-Field rivalry features multiple storylines Gainesville has

North Stafford rebuilds after state runner-up roster exodus

Orlando Jones was working as an assistant coach at Bishop Lynch, a private school in Dallas, when he learned of a head coaching vacancy at North Stafford High School. Bishop Lynch has two junior varsity teams, a freshman program, and a varsity squad. The campus has pristine facilities, and the program has won seven Texas Association of Private and Parochial School championships. “It’s just on a bigger scale,” Jones said of Texas high school football. Still, a chance to return home to the Fredericksburg area appealed to Jones. The former standout running back and linebacker for Riverbend High School competed at Virginia Tech before transferring to Southern Methodist University and wrapping up his playing career at The Citadel. North Stafford was coming off an appearance in the 2025 Class 6 state championship game where it fell to Oscar Smith, so Jones believed there was an opportunity for success. But after the Wolverines hired Jones in June, he was already facing a challenge because high school football programs now train year-round. That challenge intensified when the North Stafford administration informed Jones that the program had lost some talented transfers. After accepting the job offer, however, Jones quickly realized the situation was
