‘Just a Kid': High School Student Shot and Killed in Fredericksburg
A high school student who was months away from graduation was shot and killed Sunday in Fredericksburg, Virginia, police say. Jasiah Smith, 18, was found lying in a parking space with multiple gunshot wounds in the 200 block of Chadwick Court at about 3 p.m., according to a Fredericksburg Police Department release.
Fredericksburg Regional Transit Awarded Two Hospital Grants
Fredericksburg Regional Transit (FXBGO!) is excited to announce that it has been awarded a grant in the amount of $20,000 from the Joe and Mary Wilson Community Benefit Fund of Mary Washington Hospital Foundation and $20,000 from the Stafford Hospital Community Benefit Fund. These grant awards will allow the agency to continue to provide transit service in the Fredericksburg region that will facilitate access to healthcare through public transportation and act as a mechanism to help address health issues through the benefits and connections transit service provides.

Officials in Charles County announced that a man has been found guilty of murdering a Maryland teenager in 2020 during a shoe deal that rapidly went awry. Keishon Javontae Thompson, 20, was convicted of murder and multiple weapons charges following a five-day trial tied to his role in the fatal shooting of 19-year-old J’Shaun Wallace.

Sayreville Police Captain Graduates from FBI Academy
QUANTICO, VA -- Sayreville Police Captain Patrick J. Kiernan has graduated as a member of the 285th session of the FBI National Academy. The graduation ceremony took place at the National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, on March 16, 2023. Captain Kiernan is the second officer in the Sayreville police department's history to complete this prestigious program. Nationally, fewer than one percent of officers have the opportunity to attend the program. Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions. The 285th session consisted of 247 law enforcement officers from 47 states and the District of Columbia. The class included members of law enforcement agencies from 28 countries, four military organizations, and five federal civilian organizations. Since 1935, a total of 54,154 graduates have completed the FBI National Academy, which is held at the FBI Training Academy, the same facility where the FBI trains its new special agents and intelligence analysts in Quantico, Virginia. Congratulations, Captain Kiernan!
Prince William County Acquires New Property to Further Commit to Community Health and Well-being
On March 22, 2023, Prince William County government participated in a live bid auction process to acquire two properties located in Woodbridge, Virginia - 14011 and 14041 Worth Avenue. The county emerged as the winning bidder with a bid of $15.2 million, securing a 155,309 square-foot building on 12.51 acres of land.
