A high school student who was months away from graduation was shot and killed Sunday in Fredericksburg, Virginia, police say. Jasiah Smith, 18, was found lying in a parking space with multiple gunshot wounds in the 200 block of Chadwick Court at about 3 p.m., according to a Fredericksburg Police Department release.

Just before 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, officers responded to the 400 block of Chadwick Court for a report of shots fired.

Fredericksburg Regional Transit (FXBGO!) is excited to announce that it has been awarded a grant in the amount of $20,000 from the Joe and Mary Wilson Community Benefit Fund of Mary Washington Hospital Foundation and $20,000 from the Stafford Hospital Community Benefit Fund. School Resource Officer Investigating Altercation in which Middle School Student Deployed Pepper Spray: On March 24 at approximately 10 a.m., two students were involved in a fight inside Mattawoman Middle School. During the fight, one of the students involved in the altercation deployed pepper spray. Numerous students who were standing nearby were exposed; no injuries were reported. The school resource officer has initiated an investigation. In accordance with MD law, the students will not face criminal charges due to their ages; however, the Charles County Department of Juvenile Services was contacted for recordation and to provide services as needed. School Resource Officer Investigating Fight at High School: On March 23 at 12:45 p.m., six students were involved in an altercation at Westlake High School. School staff intervened and separated the students; no injuries were reported. The school resource officer has initiated an investigation and consulted the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office; charges are pending. QUANTICO, VA -- Sayreville Police Captain Patrick J. Kiernan has graduated as a member of the 285th session of the FBI National Academy. The graduation ceremony took place at the National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, on March 16, 2023. Captain Kiernan is the second officer in the Sayreville police department's history to complete this prestigious program. Nationally, fewer than one percent of officers have the opportunity to attend the program. Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions. The 285th session consisted of 247 law enforcement officers from 47 states and the District of Columbia. The class included members of law enforcement agencies from 28 countries, four military organizations, and five federal civilian organizations. Since 1935, a total of 54,154 graduates have completed the FBI National Academy, which is held at the FBI Training Academy, the same facility where the FBI trains its new special agents and intelligence analysts in Quantico, Virginia.
