City of Lincoln Tackling Downtown Parking Enforcement

The Lincoln Police Department has been dealing with some parking enforcement issues downtown, taking officers away from other crimes. Downtown Lincoln features parking spots that are designated for customers only; however, people have been complaining that shop owners and employees are occupying those spaces. Lincoln Police Chief Joe Meister told the Hart Media Group on the WHOW Morning Show Thursday that this is a hot-button issue in his community and his only option is to respond on a complaint-based system. This process requires investigation by an officer.

(The Center Square) – The Illinois Housing Development Authority and Corporation for Supportive Housing announced on Thursday that development teams across Illinois may now apply for the 2027 Supportive Housing Institute, an accelerated training and technical assistance program designed to equip teams with the expertise to successfully develop and finance affordable housing with support services. IHDA has committed more than $122.5 million in financing to 16 of the 47 teams that completed the Supportive Housing Institute, with additional proposals still advancing. Illinois voters reject sales tax hikes

(The Center Square) – Illinois voters have rejected sales tax referendums in four Illinois counties. The margins were similar in Adams, Crawford, Lake and Tazewell counties, with between 54% and 57% of voters saying no to a 1% sales tax for school facilities. Americans for Prosperity Illinois Deputy State Director Brian Costin said the election on Tuesday was about affordability, and there is tax fatigue in Illinois. “This was an election about Trump, and it shouldn't be an invitation for Democrats to go back down to Springfield or locally to just decide that they're going to try to grab more money, pass more referendums, because in all likelihood, the voters will reject that,” Costin told The Center Square. Costin noted that Gov. J.B. Pritzker defeated Republican Darren Bailey by 36 points in Lake County, but the sales tax referendum lost 57% to 43%. “I think it's a warning for Lake County and some of these other counties as well that these referendums are not something that's palatable or shouldn't be taken for granted, that the people are just going to automatically side with tax hikes,” Costin said. SPRINGFIELD, IL – Springfield ranks among the "rattiest cities" in the U.S., according to one recent list. The capital city did not make the top 10, but it made the top 50 in Orkin's Rattiest Cities list . Springfield ranks 29th, having jumped 8 spots on the list since last year. Chicago holds the second spot on the list. Fishmasters’ analysis, “ The Top 30 Fishing Lakes in Illinois ,” named Carlyle Lake, Lake of Egypt and more metro-east and southern Illinois lakes among the state’s best fishing spots. The report lauded Carlyle Lake for its expansive size and opportunities to catch crappie and catfish. “Formed by damming the Kaskaskia River, the water runs stained to murky, so brighter and louder baits consistently outperform natural presentations,” Fishmasters’ analysis of Carlyle Lake reads.
