The suspect appears to be a white male in his 20s, with facial hair and glasses. Mt. Pleasant student arrested after bringing gun to school, police say
MT. PLEASANT — The Mt. Pleasant Police Department said Wednesday that a student was arrested after bringing a gun to Oasis High School. On Wednesday around 8:20 a.m., officers from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department Youth Services Unit said they were contacted by a Mt. Pleasant Public Schools administrator. “One of our Youth Services officers got a call from administration that they had gotten a tip that a student was bringing a weapon to school,” said David Coffman, Public Information Officer. The Youth Services Unit officer immediately made contact with the 17-year-old male suspect, without incident they said. Police said a gun was found in the student’s backpack. He was placed into custody and is cooperating.

Workforce Housing Projects on Deck
The developer behind a proposed 149-unit workforce apartment complex on US-31 just north of McRae Hill Road will appear before the Grand Traverse Brownfield Redevelopment Authority board today (Thursday) to seek brownfield reimbursement for the project. Garfield Township trustees Tuesday supported the reimbursement request, which will next go to county commissioners in May if it receives BRA support. Meanwhile, another workforce housing project – this one on LaFranier Road next to the new BATA headquarters – was approved for $12 million in state financing this week, paving the way for construction to start this summer.
