Sonoma County Teen Arrested for Allegedly Stabbing Friend During Argument

On Tuesday, November 21, 2023, officers with the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) responded to a report of a stabbing in the area of West Ninth Street and Warren Lane. Officers arrived at the scene and contacted the victim, a 16-year-old male, who was quickly transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of a single, non-life-threatening stab wound. The suspect, also a 16-year-old male, was detained at the scene by officers.

Wanted Pace Man Jailed for DUI and Drug Charges after I-10 Chase
Just before midnight on November 27, Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office was engaged in a pursuit of a reckless vehicle (Land Rover) while traveling westbound on Interstate 10. A Florida Highway Patrol Trooper was notified by one of the SRSO deputies that the pursuit which was traveling into Escambia County. At the same time, Tallahassee Regional Communications Center Dispatch received a call from the Sheriff’s Office requesting assistance with the pursuit. Subsequently, the State Trooper engaged in the pursuit while westbound on I-10 approaching Scenic Hwy.
Santa Rosa Decapitating Suspect to Enter Plea Monday Morning
The Santa Rosa man accused of decapitating his grandmother is due back in court this morning. Twenty-three-year-old Luis Aroyo-Lopez is expected to enter a plea for his one of murder. He’s suspected of killing his 64-year-old grandmother Elvia Lopez-Arroyo. He remains in custody without bail. Lopez reportedly killed his grandmother just days after being released from state prison where he served time on assault with a deadly weapon and weapons possession charges for cases unrelated to the victim.

Santa Rosa Hit-and-Run Suspect to be Sentenced in January
A sentencing date has been set for a female driver of a fatal hit-and-run in Santa Rosa. On November 17th, Alyssa Whitten pleaded no contest to one count each of hit-and-run resulting in death or injury, vehicular manslaughter, destroying evidence and driving without a valid license. She will be sentenced on January 5th for the August hit-and-run death of 18-year-old Oswaldo Mario-Rogelio Cardenas Jr. Details of a possible sentence or plea agreement have not been made available.
Jeep Driver Hurt in Crash with Manure Truck South of Cotati
A Jeep driver suffered minor injuries after a crash south of Cotati. On Sunday afternoon, the Jeep was driving westbound on West Railroad Avenue between Cypress Avenue and Poplar Road when it crossed over into the opposite lane. It crashed into a semitrailer truck transporting manure causing the Jeep to catch fire and the truck to spill some of its load. That stretch of the roadway was closed for about three hours as crews cleaned up the scene and took the Jeep driver to the hospital.
Weekly Safety Report: Conviction in Involuntary Manslaughter Case and Fatal Crash in Ukiah
This week in Ukiah, California, two incidents occurred that impacted the safety of the community. In the first incident, a man was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of a 55-year-old resident. The defendant withdrew his plea of not guilty by reason of insanity after being acquitted of murder. In the second incident, a Santa Rosa man died in a head-on crash in Ukiah. The driver crossed into the opposite lane and collided with a truck, resulting in the death of the driver and moderate injuries to the truck driver. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Details of a letter former Sebastopol interim fire chief Jack Piccinini sent to the city council before he stepped down are being made public. The letter was sent November 1st, two days before he stepped down. Piccinini told the city to address staffing issues within its volunteer fire department, warning that public safety is at risk. He says the volunteer fire department can no longer offer 24-hour staffing, and urged the department to switch to a career firefighter model. Sebastopol is facing a nearly one-point-seven-million-dollar budget deficit and has a hiring freeze in place. Last week, it declared a fiscal emergency.
