4.5 earthquake hits near Healdsburg, felt across North Bay
HEALDSBURG -- An earthquake with 4.5 magnitude struck in Sonoma County about 13 miles north-northeast of Healdsburg early Saturday. The quake hit at about 5:01 a.m. about a mile and a half northwest of The Geysers and was measured at a depth of about 2.2 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.The quake was followed by a series of aftershocks, all measuring less than a 3.0 magnitude. No injuries or damage has been reported. The shaking was felt across a wide swath of the North Bay and as far south as San Francisco, according to data from the USGS.

The Sonoma Sister Cities Committee fundraising dinner for the Ukrainian city of Kaniv was a huge success. “Thank you for your generosity,” reports Kaeti Bailie. “Because of you we were able to wire transfer $20,000 for humanitarian aid to Kaniv. This brings the total to $133,000 over the past year.” Bailie thanks all the volunteers that worked so tirelessly to make the event such a big success: Sonoma Valley Rotary Club’s chef Ron Lawson and Bar-B-Q crew; Dave Barker, designer; Ukrainian bard Taras Lumiere, pop coral Voices in my Head, and rock band ZigZag for the music; Senator Bill Dodd for his inspirational remark; Congressman Mike Thompson’s support crew; Lori Rukes for the decor; and Karen Collins and Jeni and Byron Nichols the program and organization. Bailie (who Dodd named Sonoma County Woman of the Year for her work supporting Ukraine) shared the heartfelt response from Kaniv’s mayor and his wife upon receiving news of the funds transfer. “Hello Kaeti,” reads the note from Ihor Renkas and Tetiana Renkas. “On behalf of Kaniv citizens, I would like to sincerely thank you, Sonomans, and Mr. Bill Dodd. Three Die from Tranq Overdoses at Petaluma Valley Hospital
Sonoma County officials are seeing a spike in overdoses from tranq-laced fentanyl. In just one week, Petaluma Valley Hospital had three patients, all in their twenties, come in after overdosing. CBS Bay Area reports that all three did not survive. Xylazine, also known as “tranq” or “tranq dope,” is usually used by veterinarians to anesthetize animals. While some lives can be saved with Narcan, a medication that can quickly reverse a drug overdose, the medication rarely ever works on those who take tranq.
