Paving project to cause lane closure on Cherokee Road
The City of Johnson City’s Public Works Department will be paving and milling a section of the eastbound lane on Cherokee Road from 6:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Friday, June 2. The road maintenance will occur between Southwest Avenue and Beech Drive. Motorists can expect lane closures and delays in the area of construction.
Tax Increase Looms In Johnson City
It appears taxes are going up in Johnson City. City Commissioners will consider a 25 cent property tax hike to support a 114 million dollar budget. If approved, the increase would mean a rate of one dollar and 98 cents per 100 dollars of assessed value, that’s up from the current one dollar and 73 cents rate. The increase means a person who owns a house assessed at 200 thousand dollars would pay 990 dollars a year, up from 865. Commissioners will consider the tax hike proposal at its meeting Thursday evening at City Hall.

The 76th Rhododendron Festival will be held the weekend of June 17 and 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at the Roan Mountain State Park. Kingsport Detectives Still Working Case Of Man Found In Creek Last Week
Investigators in Kingsport continue to work to determine the cause of death of a man found last week. Police say the body of a 43 year old man was found in a creek between Wilcox Drive and Brook Street on May 25. The man’s name is not being released while an autopsy is being performed at the William L. Jenkins Forensic Center.
