Longtime City Attorney appointed Interim Mayor of Gonzales
Ryland Percy was appointed to fill the City of Gonzales’ mayoral vacancy on Monday after a unanimous vote (with one abstention) from the five-member City Council. Percy, who served as City Attorney for decades, was the compromise candidate after months of fruitless wrangling over the position by two Council hopefuls. Palpably frustrated at their inability to garner the deal-sealing third vote, Councilmen Harold Stewart and Johnny Berthelot acquiesced to Percy’s appointment to varying degrees.

Woman killed in Garyville double shooting identified by St. John the Baptist Parish coroner
One woman was killed and another person was wounded in a Garyville shooting early this week, the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday. The victims were hit by gunfire on Sherman Walker Street at around 7 p.m. Tuesday, sheriff's office officials said. No arrests have been made and the sheriff's office said detectives do not have any leads.
LaPlace man convicted of second-degree murder for 'brutally gunning down' Opelousas man on Father's Day 2019
OPELOUSAS, La. (KADN) — It took a St. Landry Parish jury "well under an hour" to find a LaPlace man guilty of killing an Opelousas man. District Attorney Chad Pitre said the jury convicted Kendall Singleton, 41, on Thursday, May 9, of second-degree murder for shooting Joseph Boxie Jr., 49, to death on Father’s Day in 2019.
