NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Two New Jersey police officers were injured while answering a 911 call on Sunday night, with one officer being stabbed in the face, according to police.

At around 8:30 p.m., the Galloway Township Police Department responded to several disconnected 911 calls from a residence on Cresson Avenue in Galloway.

Two officers arrived at the scene and were greeted at the door by the suspect's mother. While they were speaking, Keith E. Kiminski, 30, came out from the house and attacked the officers, according to officials.

Kiminski stabbed officer Erik Tarnow on the right side of his face with a folding pocket knife, police said.

Police released a body camera video from the incident, showing Tarnow repeatedly saying "stop, stop" as Kiminski attacks.

Tarnow took Kaminski to the ground, and along with Officer Hunter Thomas they fought with Kiminski for several minutes until additional backup officers came to the scene.

Tarnow was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, where he underwent surgery for his injuries. He sustained a significant cut on the side of his face and is currently in stable condition.

Thomas was treated for a minor head injury and released the same evening.

Kiminski was charged with multiple offenses including attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and resisting arrest.

Kiminski was transported to the Atlantic County Justice Facility and will stay there until his scheduled court appearance.

“This incident is another reminder of the dangers that our police officers face on a daily basis”, Chief Richard D. Barber said. “We are grateful that Officer Tarnow is recovering well, and our department will be here to fully support Erik and his family.”
