Vehicle crashes into Honesdale-area bagel shop

A car crashed into Vinny's Original Brooklyn Bagels at 1114 Texas Palmyra Highway, Honesdale, in Texas Township on the morning of Nov. 6. Businesspeople in the vicinity had no reports of injuries. The shop is located along Route 6 in a shopping plaza owned by The Alpine. Photos posted online following the crash show a Honda most of the way inside the shop, having broken through a picture window. There was general disarray inside from the crash. Mark Eifert, one of the owners of The Alpine, went to the scene. He said as far as he was aware, no one was hurt. A tow truck removed the car, and the window was later boarded up. The crash of a vehicle into the bagel shop follows a similar incident in which a vehicle smashed into Belmont Café at 249 Belmont St., Waymart, on the afternoon of Oct. 31. No one was hurt in that incident, a post on the café’s Facebook page indicates. The café was not open at the time. A New York State Police sergeant secretly recorded two children as they undressed in a bathroom at his Orange County home, federal prosecutors allege. Steven Calderon, 43, was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of a child and one count of possessing child sexual abuse material. He was ordered detained after appearing in federal court in White Plains.

Village Pizzeria in Goshen has the best pizza pies in Orange County. So say the readers who responded to this week's Orange County Showdown poll. Village Pizzeria was chosen by 37.5 percent of those who responded to this week's poll. Second place went to Colandrea Pizza King in Middletown. They were chosen by 18.8 percent of the voters. F&J Pizzeria in Washingtonville finished in third place, with 12.5 percent of the vote. And Prima Pizza in Cornwall was fourth, with 11 percent of the vote.
