The Kansas Buffet That Was Just Named One Of The Top All You Can Eat Spots In The State

Fourteen cooking stations. More than 60 Italian dishes. A cobblestone piazza built right inside a restaurant, with fountains and flower-covered balconies overhead. That combination sounds like a fever dream after too much pasta. Yet it’s real, and it sits in the Kansas City suburbs. Kansas diners recently helped push...

A Quick Take on our new Quik Trip!

How many times per month do you visit the Waldo Quik Trip?? It’s my preferred pit spot to fill up the gas tank, and grab a snack. It took years for QT corporate to take over the former Burger King location and build a new, expanded store for our community that opened in June. I stopped in recently to talk with store manager Tyler Zoeller and learned some quick facts about our new Quik Trip!

Johnson County café closes ‘with a heavy heart' after a year in business

After a year and a few months in business, a Johnson County international café has closed. Taiwanese-based chain 85°C Bakery Cafe , which has locations across the world, closed its Overland Park location on Halloween. The former bakery and coffee shop had signs on its door Monday morning that alerted fans to its exit. “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of our bakery …” the notice read in part. “We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all our customers for your loyalty, trust, and support over the years.” The lights were off and product had been moved out of the store. In June 2025, the location opened at 12061 Metcalf Ave., serving individually packaged pastries: jumbo guava cheese strudels, milk butter puff pastries, cocoa-dipped Danishes, pineapple cake and more. The opening day was received with long lines and excitement from fans who had been to 85°C’s locations in Hawaii, Texas and beyond. Around that same time, international chain Paris Baguette opened its first area location at 11137 W. 95th St. near Oak Park Mall. That chain, based in South Korea, now also has locations at 15895 Metcalf Ave. in Overland Park and 1360

This Amish Buffet In Missouri Piles On Butter-Rich Comfort Food Until You Can’t Move

Fried chicken, real mashed potatoes, homemade bread with jams and apple butter, and dessert already included in the buffet price. That alone made me sit up. The pies get talked about almost as much as the chicken. Gooseberry, strawberry rhubarb, and coconut cream all show up in conversations about this spot.

Eating At Rozzelle Court Feels Like Lunching In An Italian Courtyard In Kansas City

Kansas City has plenty of lunch spots, but very few of them come with stone columns, a fountain in the middle of the room, and a glass roof overhead. One of them sits inside a famous art museum, and it looks more like a courtyard in Italy than a place to grab a sandwich.

Kansas City Has Been Ordering Fried Chicken From Go Chicken Go For Over 50 Years

Some Kansas City traditions get passed down like family recipes, and one of them comes in a cardboard box. For more than five decades, folks on the east side of town have been lining up, idling in drive-thru lanes, and calling ahead for the same fried chicken their parents ordered.

Drinking and eating (mostly) in Waldo, according to a Waldo bartender

The restaurant industry resume of Eric Jones is long and varied, as is the case for the many who staff Kansas City’s eateries and bars. His first hospitality job likely wasn’t on the books — working at the hotel that his dad managed when he was 14 years old — while his first paid job inside a restaurant was an Outback Steakhouse. Jones has worked at Chez Elle Crêperie, the now-closed Anton’s, the also gone Bier Station and several spots in between, picking up experience in the front of house and behind the bar. Where you’ll find him these days is at Dodson’s Bar & Commons, which he helped open with Eric Schmidt, and O’B’s, a Waldo restaurant and bar that opened in September, doing front-of-house operations. In that time, he’s also collected friends and mentors from the industry — like the late Waldo bar industry legend Jeff O’Brien, O’B’s namesake. “At the end of the day, what really matters most to me is that I love the team that we have here,” Jones said. That includes Schmidt, who also opened O’B’s with Mike’s Wine and Spirits owner Andy Doohan. The chef is Krista Harr, who Jones said worked with

The Fold has taken over the former Corvino space with a gluten-free menu and an ambitious but awkward take on modern American dining

It is difficult to describe The Fold, the modern American restaurant that has made its home in the shadow of Corvino Supper Club, a spot formerly renowned for its haute cuisine that closed at the very end of last year. And yes, I’ve wondered if that comparison took up too much space in my mind while writing this review.

The ‘barbecue guru' is coming to Kansas City. Here's his food itinerary

When you’re a barbecue expert, Kansas City would indisputably become a repeated stop for research and dining. Steven Raichlen has spent decades teaching people how to better grill their meats, through cookbooks and food writing (most famously “The Barbecue Bible”), and he’s also studied barbecue through reading and traveling. He’s been called the “barbecue guru” and his personal favorite, the “Shakespeare of barbecue.” Raichlen is also a Barbecue Hall of Fame inductee, which took place right here in Kansas City and where he was honored the same year as KC BBQ legend Paul Kirk. His barbecue work — a dream job for any Kansas Citian — has taken this Martha’s Vineyard resident to Japan’s yakitori parlors and even France, where they cook mussels using dry pine needles and live fire. The job has also taken him back and again to the “Big Four” of barbecue in the U.S., also part of the “barbecue belt”: Texas, the Carolinas, Memphis and Kansas City. “(Kansas City) is the most ecumenical of all the great barbecue cities,” Raichlen said. “Brisket is a big deal in Kansas City. Ribs are a big deal in Kansas City. Barbecued chicken is a big deal in Kansas City.”

Fruit flies, mold on surfaces: Latest Kansas City-area restaurant inspections

From items being stored in handwashing sinks to employees not knowing how to prevent foodborne diseases, health inspectors in Missouri and Kansas found numerous violations at Kansas City-area restaurants last week. Dining establishments such as sit-down restaurants, drive-thrus, gas stations and grocery stores are required to get food inspections, and governments have to release those inspections to the public. In Kansas City and Independence, each city’s health department enforces the food code while in Kansas, the state’s Department of Agriculture handles inspections. The lower the number of violations, the better. Most restaurants correct violations at the time of the original inspection or shortly after. The full inspections show how each establishment has corrected or is working to correct any remaining violations. They are available for Kansas City at inspectionsonline.us/foodsafety/mousakansascity/search.htm and Johnson and Wyandotte counties at portal.kda.ks.gov/Food/FoodInspectionSearch . Here are the restaurants in Kansas City and Johnson County that received seven or more critical or priority and priority foundation violations from Oct. 12-18. No restaurants in Wyandotte County met the criteria during this timeframe. Jose Pepper’s 13770 S. Black Bob Road, Olathe 13 priority and priority foundation violations found during a joint inspection on Oct. 13 The regional Mexican chain restaurant
