Parade, celebration coming to North end on April 27
North Side pride will be on full display Saturday in a parade rolling along St. Joseph Avenue. The Northside parade begins at 10 a.m. on April 27 near Middleton Street and heads north up St. Joseph Avenue to the Northside Complex. Entries will line up at 9 a.m. on Maple Leaf Parkway. Sunday arrest produces assault-on-police charge
Police went after a reported kidnapper on Sunday night, but the man they arrested isn’t charged on any such offense, thus far. Brett C. Matheny, 33, a South Side resident arrested that evening, has now received one misdemeanor charge following events that started with authorities being told there may have been a kidnapping involving a child.
Crews respond to early morning structure fire
The St. Joseph Fire Department worked the scene of a structure fire Tuesday at the intersection of Middleton Street and Savannah Avenue. The initial call came in before 3 a.m. with reports of flames coming out of a window of the house. Firefighters contained the fire quickly and it appeared to be subdued when News-Press NOW arrived on the scene at 3:20 a.m.

Holt County collision injures 1
(Forest City) -- One person was injured in a two-vehicle collision in Holt County early Wednesday afternoon. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred on Maywood Road near Missouri Highway 111 a mile-and-a-half north of Forest City around 12:15 p.m. Authorities say a 2018 GMC FedEx truck, driven by 29-year-old Luz Silva of St. Joseph, was northbound on Maywood when it crossed the center line and into the path of a 2015 GMC Sierra, driven by 33-year-old Ethan Woolsey of Forest City. The patrol says the Sierra attempted to avoid the collision and traveled off the north side of the road, but the front left of the FedEx truck struck the front left of the pickup and its towed unit. Both vehicles came to rest on their wheels.
