Collin County turns out to vote for historic results

This year’s mid-term elections have brought record turnout to Texas and Collin County. The spotlight is on Dallas suburbs like Plano, whose changing demographics and growing populations are making these cities a bellwether for the region. Over 9.5 million votes were cast across the states for a historic upset, placing Democratic candidates throughout the state’s highest elected offices in decades. This was the first time that Collin County went to a Democratic Senate candidate since 1970. Democratic candidates James Talarico, Gina Hinojosa, Vikki Goodwin and others all won their raises. Democrats also made major gains in the US House and Senate, securing a majority. Republicans have maintained a majority in the Texas Senate, but may be at risk of losing the State House race, which has not yet been called. Local Republican incumbent Congressional Representatives like Keith Self held on to their seats in single digit victories. Dallas area attorney Maeghan Whitehead signed up to act as a nonpartisan poll monitor for the Election Protection Coalition and was sent to the Harrington Library in Plano to ensure an orderly and accessible election. A New Drive-In Theatre Is Coming To McKinney

Movie night is getting a little dose of nostalgia in McKinney. Instead of finding a seat in a dark theater, moviegoers can settle into lawn chairs, gather around their cars and watch a film beneath the Texas sky at Wayback Drive-In, a new outdoor movie theater opening this November. Located at Wayback Barn, 3964 County Road 168, the drive-in is the latest addition to the four-acre outdoor entertainment destination in north McKinney. A grand opening is scheduled for Nov. 6-8. It is the only drive-in movie theater in McKinney and one of the few still operating in North Texas. Guests who purchase movie tickets also receive admission to Wayback Barn, where they can arrive early to play yard games, take on the mini-golf course or grab something to eat and drink before the show. "We wanted to give families a reason to slow down, share a meaningful experience, and turn movie night back into an outdoor social event," said owner Laura O'Dowd. More Than A Movie There is plenty to do before the opening credits roll. The property features a collection of outdoor games, including gaga ball, tetherball, nine square, horseshoes, volleyball, cornhole, ping-pong, foosball, bocce ball and giant Jenga.

Collin County Voters Oppose $817.5 Million Bond, $600 Million Collin College Proposal

Collin County voters turned down millions of dollars in proposed funding for county facilities, road improvements and higher education, rejecting an $817.5 million county bond package and a separate $600 million Collin College bond proposition. All four propositions in the county bond package failed, according to unofficial election results . The Collin College proposal also fell short, with approximately 52% of voters opposing it. The measures came as Collin County continues to add residents and faces growing demands on its roads, public facilities and educational resources. The county has approximately 1.3 million residents and added nearly 43,000 people between July 2024 and July 2025, according to U.S. Census Bureau data. Four Propositions, $817.5 Million In Projects The county bond package would have funded projects over six years, spanning fiscal years 2027 through 2032. Proposed improvements covered public safety, transportation, parks and election infrastructure. While the bond would have authorized the county to issue debt for the projects, approval would not have triggered an immediate property tax increase. Collin County's existing debt service tax rate is 4.18 cents per $100 of assessed property value. Based on an assumed 3% annual increase in county revenue, projections showed the rate could reach 4.95
