1 killed in crash involving school bus and vehicle, officials say
NEVADA, Texas — One person was killed in a crash Thursday morning involving a vehicle and Community ISD school bus near Lavon and Nevada, DPS officials confirmed to WFAA. The crash happened near the intersection of FM 6 and Discovery Drive just after 8 a.m. Thursday. DPS officials told WFAA an SUV "turned left when unsafe and was struck by the Community ISD school bus." The SUV was occupied by a driver and passenger, DPS officials said. The driver was taken to Baylor of Lakepoint in Rowlett, where he died. The SUV passenger was checked and released at the scene, DPS said.

DALLAS — On Friday, EMPOWER, a private company contracted by the state, will fully takeover managing the foster care system for nine North Texas counties. This will be the second phase of the transition to Community-Based Care, which is the state’s term for private foster care, for Dallas, Collin, Ellis, Rockwall, Kaufman, Hunt, Fannin and Navarro Counties. In this phase, EMPOWER, will assume full case management and placement responsibility for all of the children in the region who have been removed from their homes because of abuse and neglect and are in the state’s custody.

Two Arrested for Assaulting Greenville Police Officers on Separate Incidents
On February 26, 2024, Hunt County Sheriff Deputies arrested 51-year-old Randall Wayne Foster of Greenville on an outstanding warrant issued by the 196th District Court. The warrant stemmed from an incident on May 2, 2023, where Foster was charged with assaulting a Greenville Police Officer. Foster was initially released on a Personal Recognizance Bond but failed to appear for his court dates.
