Winter gas rates for many in Mass. hold steady — a rare reprieve as other costs rise

On a gray November morning in Worcester, the gas bill that lands in a mailbox can feel like a verdict. Heat is not a luxury in New England. It is the difference between a livable kitchen and a room a family abandons after dinner. This year, for many households, that verdict is unusually calm. Massachusetts gas rates for the winter period are holding steady for a large share of customers, a pause that arrives while groceries, insurance, and rent keep climbing. Regulators approved supply prices that do not jump the way they did in the hardest winters of the early 2020s. The relief is real. It is also narrow, and it does not rewrite the longer story of what it costs to stay warm north of Hartford and south of the Canadian border.

Nearly 3 Inches of Rain Floods Falmouth and Brockton, Shuts Down Roads

Nearly three inches of rain turned streets into rivers across Falmouth and Brockton on Friday, floating trash barrels through a gas station parking lot, partially submerging gas pumps, and even flooding the Falmouth police station itself. Off-duty officers were called in to help manage the chaos as road crews scrambled to close flooded stretches on both ends, leaving at least one local business barely able to operate.
