Ten Dolphins Rescued and Released Following Mass Stranding in Cape Cod
Ten dolphins were successfully rescued and released back into the wild on Wednesday after a near seven-hour stranding ordeal off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The rescue mission was initiated late Tuesday afternoon when staff and volunteers from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) received reports of 11 Atlantic white-sided dolphins dangerously close to shore off Wellfleet. The timing of the incident, just three hours before low tide, heightened concerns for the stranded marine mammals.
Feds award $5 million to restore wetlands at 2 defunct Cape Cod cranberry bogs
Massachusetts will rip up two defunct cranberry bogs and restore wetlands on Cape Cod thanks to a $5 million federal grant. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration grant will fund projects to restore coastal habitats, tidal flow and fish passage by removing dams and other restrictive structures in Bourne and Yarmouth.

That sunshine feels better than good, doesn’t it? A few bluebird days this week, minimal cloud coverage, and of course, a little bit more rain. That’s true spring weather. Although, a few colder-than-usual nights by late-April standards have thrown a bit of a wrench in striped bass fishing since they arrived last week. Water temps are still pretty cold, hovering right around 47 to 48 degrees, but with a few more days of pure sunshine like today, Vineyard Sound will reach 50 degrees and more stripers will be swimming into our rivers, salt ponds and bays.
