Estacada, Banks, Molalla school districts seek approval of bond measures
Three local school districts in the Portland suburbs are asking voters to approve local bond measures this May. In Clackamas County, the Molalla River School District is hoping voters will agree to tax property owners $1.55 per every $1,000 of assessed value, which equates to about $310 a year property tax increase on a home with an assessed value of $200,000.
Police recover 10 stolen vehicles, arrest 7 during collaborative mission
More stolen vehicles were recovered in East Multnomah County during a multi-agency mission Monday, April 22. Judge sentences Oregon man convicted in 1978 murder case
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - An Oregon man convicted of murdering a 16-year-old in the 1970s was sentenced to 50 years in prison on Friday in Anchorage. The ruling on Donald McQuade marks the culmination of an investigation into who killed Shelley Connolly in 1978 that for decades led to very few breaks.
Delays coming to Troutdale roads for hazardous tree removal
Expect traffic delays next week across Troutdale as road crews remove hazardous trees that are at high risk of falling along a trio of roadways. From Monday, April 29, through Friday, May 3, Multnomah County crews will be working from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. At each site there will be large equipment and flaggers directing traffic. Delays could reach up to 20 minutes. The work locations are: Southeast Stark Street — Delays between Southeast 35th Street and the Stark Street Bridge.Southeast Kerslake Road — Delays between Southeast Stark Street and Southeast 302nd Avenue.Southeast Sweetbriar Road — Delays between Southeast 282nd Avenue and Soutehast Kerslake Road. Bird song laces the still air punctuating the distant hum of traffic from across the Willamette River on 99E. The glow of dawn lights this familiar route along the river on Volpp Street. Rounding the corner at 4th, I head up to see who else is awake on the wetland. Passing the tall berm surrounding the settling pond containing years of diverted toxic sludge from the Oregon City paper mill, piped here for storage instead of sending it straight into the Willamette River as in the days before the EPA, I wonder what the future holds for this eclectic mix...
